We won’t say our goodbyes
You know it’s better that way
We won’t break, we won’t die
It’s just a moment of change

Inspiration

After I rewrote Poisonous Dreams as A Few Words Too Many, I eliminated the marriage of convenience angle. It’s a concept I like reading in general because there’s a vast difference between developing a relationship outside of marriage and then making it work once you’re in one. So I started to think how I could do that concept again. What would make Jason and Elizabeth take that step? Spousal privilege, of course.

And from there, I looked at different time periods until I found my favorite one: Summer 2006. My God, the amount of story I’ve planned that uses this as a jumping off point is legion. I loved 2006 so much.

Timeline

So, this begins in October 2006. All of the events of the summer have happened through the point Lucky leaves for rehab in mid-September after throwing Elizabeth to the floor. Ric has taken over as DA for Alexis due to her cancer. Elizabeth has told Jason about the paternity issue, but rather than running the test at GH, she had it done at Mercy for more secrecy. I haven’t changed much except for the Jason and Sam relationship. There’s been no real movement to getting back together. Also, while Sam and Carly are aware of the NOP, only Sonny knows about the paternity test.

2017 Update: I hadn’t really watched the 2006 scenes as closely as I should have before writing this and I completely forgot that Emily did know about the paternity and blackout night. I also forgot just how supportive of Elizabeth she ended up being. I also kind of flubbed the Sam stuff in this story. I didn’t want to deal with her, so I really didn’t. And I feel bad about it. Not bad enough to rewrite, but just note that I didn’t really stick as close to GH canon as I thought I had.

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you

Inspiration

So as a rule, I don’t tend to do a ton of holiday stories. There are a few reasons, but usually it’s because I’m so bogged down with writing projects that the thought of doing one more is insane, so the few Christmas projects that are on ths site are short stories or longer stories with Christmas celebrations.

However, this year I wanted to do something fun and light-hearted (for the most part) because so much of what I’m working on at the moment is either really complex or just angsty and dark with mental illness, domestic abuse, and whatnot. Plus I almost never write alternate universe — General Hospital canon is just so complex and filled with incredible characters and history that I get distracted for that. So AU is another challenge for me.

Timeline

All I Want is an alternate universe, so here’s my disclaimer. The Jason Morgan in this story has a characterization that’s closer to a blend of Jason Morgan and Jason Quartermaine, raised within the Quartermaine family but rejected by his stepmother, Monica, for the most part. Because there’s no accident and no mob, it makes sense that his character would not be as stoic or constrained as JM on screen.

Really, all you need to know is the short-hand abbrievations I use for the ELQ corporate structure, since ELQ is pretty important. Jason is the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) and AJ is the COO (Chief Operations Officer). They both report to Ned as the CEO (Chief Executive Officer). Emily is the corporate events planner, and Elizabeth is her admistrative assistant. All other things will be set up in the story. So to speak.

Trivia: Creating this story page led me to realize that there were no character images for Ned and Alan yet, which means I don’t write about them often enough. Challenge to myself in 2015: Write more for the characters I don’t use often enough. I…have rambled enough.

But remember the time I told you the way that I felt
That I’d be lost without you and never find myself
Let’s hold onto each other above everything else

Inspiration

This story has changed so much since I originally envisioned it in 2004. Lila Quartermaine had just died, and I found myself wondering how Port Charles would handle Audrey’s death. So I began writing based on that idea, and had six or seven chapters written before a computer crash killed them all. Almost ten years later, I returned to it, and changed it around so that there are very few aspects of that old story that remained: really just the title and the way I deal with Jason changing Sam’s paternity results.

Timeline

For the most part, the major backstory will be explained in the first few chapters. I’ve changed only a few things. I pick up the show about May 2004 (or whenever Jason changed the paternity results), and go from there. So from that period on, only what’s in my story is what happened. Basically — just how Sonny and Jason deal with his changing the results. Elizabeth does not come home in June 2004 and enroll the nursing program. Emily and Nikolas are together, after he comes back from the dead. None of the Mary Bishop going insane stuff happens. Not that it’s important, but I liked Mary so…pfft.

Steven Webber is played by Shaun Benson, rather than Scott Reeves, simply because I never really watched Scott as Steven, but I really liked Shaun’s portrayal back then. A note about Steven as a character: John Durant is not a factor in this story, so he’s just a normal doctor at General Hospital, having moved to Port Charles over the summer.

Carly is played by Tamara Braun because she was playing her in 2004 and her characterization drives Carly’s motives, rather than LW or SBr.

Thanks to Cora for her incredible help during the outlining stage, and then for her skills as a beta 🙂

Author’s Note

Sonny is going to struggle with mental illness in this story, particularly a type of bipolar disorder with mixed episodes. This basically means his mood swings occur much more rapidly, and even occasionally simultaneously. I don’t know anyone personally with this disorder–everything I know comes from hours of research.  People who have this disorder are not innately violent, so I want to make that disclaimer. I just tried to adapt the disorder to someone with Sonny’s specific characteristics. I hope I do this illness justice and make Sonny less of a caricature and feel more like a living, breathing man struggling with a difficult illness.

If you have any experience with this, please contact me to let me know if I’m making this work or if I’m messing it up. I don’t want this to be a soap opera disease where I make it up as I go along.

Inspiration & Disclaimer

Special thanks to Carla (kcke2pen) for supplying this story–one that’s been lost to me for nearly a decade. I wrote this story in September 2002, and it is the oldest piece of writing on this site now, with the exception of pieces of The Sisters.

This story is not particularly chipper. It deals with severe child abuse, and I’m more like the character of Emily in this, the hapless friend who learns of the abuse too late to do anything, than I am anyone else, but even that is very fictionalized. (The Law & Order fetish is all me, however :P)

Timeline

This is alternate universe story, in which no character has the same history as they do on the show so forget everything you know except what I tell you.  I will say the rereading this that I’m surprised at how much I changed the way Jason acted after the accident. I’m not sure I would have done that today, but eh, you make choices 😛

Therein it is related that in the alignment of the planets, occurring only once in the span of a millennia, there shall be a holy union of two. The male, in the first quarter of his life, shall be of flaxen hair and rigorous of body and mind; the female, having celebrated no more than twenty years, small and dark, of pure heart and blood.

Signaling their meeting, a flash, whereupon day will turn to night and then return swiftly.

Upon the binding of the chosen two, a thousand years of blessed light follow and come upon this world on that night, the eve of the fifteenth month. If conditions be not met, damnation will fall upon the land until the planets align once again.

Aurora Dawning is a full-fledged fantasy story with legends, magic, sorcerors and enchantresses. At one point, I had planned a sequel but it has mostly fallen off my radar.  I hope you enjoy this odd bit. Thanks to LeaB for being my original beta all those moons ago, and to Pia for writing the legend above.

This story has now been reposted in its entirety.

yesterdays

Inspiration

I’m not sure now what inspired this story, but it’s definitely up there as one of my best early pieces. There are things I would do differently today, but I’m still really happy with it overall.

Yesterdays is really close to my heart. When I started writing it, I had never met anyone who had divorced parents. I’m from a small town and we were mostly lower middle class for the majority of my childhood. People would fight, maybe spend nights at different places, but divorce was too expensive. How could you set up two households when just having one was so difficult to afford?

So, I wrote this story without any real experience. About halfway through, I received a message from a reader who told me that this story touched her because it made her think of her own experiences, and I’ve never forgotten that.

 Background

This is an alternate universe in which Elizabeth and Jason are the children of jet-setting wealthy parents who travel the world. They met and married young, then bitterly divorced shortly after the birth of their first daughter.

Story Notes

Some of the cast photos might be foreign or odd. That is Brooklyn Rae Silzer, who currently plays Emma Scorpio-Drake, but I adore her to pieces so she’s cast as Olivia Morgan in this. Holly Marie Combs’ picture is Jessica Spencer (the same Jessica from Intoxication, ha) and there’s Senait Ashenafi as Keesha Ward, Jason Quartermaine’s first girlfriend on the show.

Background

This may be one of the oddest stories I’ve ever written. It retells the storyline of Elizabeth falling at Rice Plaza in 2003, when Faith pushed her and caused her miscarriage. The show wanted to have Ric blame Sonny, which I totally understood, but then there was that ridiculous panic room storyline that would have destroyed any other character, but somehow Rick Hearst was so amazing, even I still love him and he almost killed my favorite character a dozen times.

This show is not specifically one couple or another, and surprisingly, it’s more Jason/Courtney and Ric/Elizabeth than I had intended, but I still liked the way it worked out so I can’t complain too much. I had intially intended on a whole other second part of this that might have explained the title, but I ended up dropping it, so don’t try and figure it out too much. It doesn’t fit the story whatsoever 😛 There’s always maybe the possibility of a sequel, but with my list of stuff to write, it’s unlikely.

This story includes Amy Adams as Robyn Nicholas, and Holly Marie Combs as Jessica Mitchell.

Inspiration

I Shall Believe begins in the fall of 2003. I’ve always thought the show copped out that year when writing Rebecca Herbst’s pregnancy into the storyline by making the baby Zander’s. He was a character that was clearly already on his way out, and it just didn’t show much imagination, and the fallout would have been more interesting had it been anyone else. So naturally, I made it Jason.

Timeline

This story begins after Sonny shoots Carly in the head and she wakes up without any memories or emotions. Sage Alcazar has tried to kill Lorenzo and come on to Dillon Quartermaine. This is one of the stories that received a great deal of feedback at the time it was posted in 2003-04, and then when I reposted it in 2006. Mostly because this story also features my attempt at writing Courtney in a sympathetic light, which was always difficult for Liason fans. Courtney has taken the boys to live in Haye’s Landing after the shooting, to keep them away from the press while Sonny is in jail. She and Jason have been married for about ten minutes.

Story Notes

I realize now that the character of Brian is almost unknown  — he was only on the show from about November 2003-February 2004. He was a sheriff in Haye’s Landing that owned the house Courtney rented while Carly was recovering. They were very cute together, and it was the first time I’d liked her in ages. So when I started this story in November 2003, I wrote Brian into it. He was a former FBI profiler who’d lost his wife Karen and moved back home. On the show, he moved to Port Charles to join the PCPD (which I thought was insane, but whatevs) and ended up being shot by Courtney in January 2004 (the crime Zander Smith was accused of and on the run for when he was killed by the cops) and then killed during the PC Hotel fire by Capelli. … Naturally I like my Brian better.

Note: Lucas Jones is in this story, and I wrote it originally in 2003/4 more than a year before his character came out as gay. At the time, I had no idea the show would eventually go in this direction, so when I write him in this story as straight and romantically involved with a girl, it’s not because I don’t approve, but simply this is how I wrote it eleven years ago.

sanctuary

Inspiration

This is my second attempt at a full-length Scrubs story, after North Star. I’m actually pretty happy I managed to focus just on Patrick and Robin and their story. Usually, I can’t help myself. Elizabeth has a minor subplot, but it’s almost non-existent and ties into the larger story.

When Patrick and Robin first got together, there were a plethora of pregnancy stories floating around the web. Probably because it was clear Robin wanted a family and that Patrick didn’t. With the addition of Robin’s HIV status, this was a go-to plot line. I hope I did it justice.

Timeline

Sanctuary is set in the summer of 2006. However, the events on the show after about March are basically non-existent. This isn’t important other than the Maarkaam Islands adventure never happened. Robin and Patrick were dating briefly, but broke up. Jesse Beaudry was killed (but this is only in reference to Maxie being single.)

I LOVE THIS BANNER THIS IS THE BEST LINE I EVER WROTE

Inspiration

In 2006, there was a challenge at The Canvas, in which an author would receive a title and would have to write a story accordingly. I received The Witness from IsisIzabel, and somehow this story came about. It’s literally one of my favorite stories I’ve ever written and still the one I get asked about (the only one that’s completed, that is), inquiring about a sequel. I always feel slightly guilty since this story, though originated on a Jason/Elizabeth board, is barely Jason/Elizabeth. Their friendship is in there, and if I ever wrote the sequel, I’m sure a romance would be in there. It just never fit the plot.  If anything, this story is much more Patrick/Robin and Dillon/Lulu.

Timeline

Set in late May 2006. It’s been so long since some of these storylines happened, I can’t really remember what was going on with Sam’s surgery. She was shot, and there was a brain surgery, so in this story I have Alexis whisking her off to a clinic to keep her away from Jason’s dangerous life. Lucky is addicted to pain killers, Maxie has told Robin about John Jacks’ paternity. Robin and Patrick are dating. Dillon and Georgie are still struggling with their marriage, and he has just returned from the Maarkaam Islands with Lulu. And rereading this, I miss the crap out of Dillon.

Enjoy this. I had a blast rereading for typos as I moved it over.
