March 29, 2020

Hey! It’s Sunday morning here, and I just slept for eight hours after spending most of last night finishing up For the Broken Girl, Book 1. What I’ve completed is the alpha draft — the first pass at the story. I haven’t reread large portions of it, and there are a lot of typos, inconsistencies, and plot holes. So the next step is to go into the revision stage.

I don’t know how much work needs to be done until I do a full reread, so that’s going to determine the final publication date. At the moment, I know that there are characters and subplots that need fleshing out, and I expect to add two or more chapters at some point in the story before we get to the end. At the same time, I’ll be going into Camp NaNoWriMo on April 1, working on the alpha draft of Mad World, Book 3.

I’ve updated Production Schedule with these dates, but here is what the next six weeks looks like:

28 March 2020: Complete For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Alpha Draft & Patreon Release for Crimson Love tier

29 March 2020: Complete Mad World, Book 3 – Outline

30 March 2020: Complete Mad World, Book 3 – Plot Sketch

31 March 2020: Begin Mad World, Book 3 – Chapter Breakdown & Soundtrack

1 April 2020: Begin Camp NaNoWriMo – Mad World, Book 3 Alpha Draft is chosen project. Goal is 50,000 words.

4 April 2020: Reread For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Alpha Draft and make revision notes.

5 April 2020: Begin revising For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Alpha Draft

19 April 2020: Complete For the Broken Girl, Book 1- Beta Draft & Patreon Release for Crimson Devoted tier.

30 April 2020: Complete Camp NaNoWriMo and assess Mad World, Book 3 production schedule.

5 May 2020: Publish For the Broken Girl, Book 1 ebook for Patreon Crimson Adored tier & begin publishing chapters on Crimson Glass.

Note: Depending on revisions, everything Broken Girl releated after April 19 is subject to change, but the absolute latest publication for Broken Girl is May 18.

I’ll be posting three chapters a week — Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — which should take us through August. And then in September, I’ll begin posting Mad World Book 3.

March 28, 2020

I’m just popping in to say about five minutes ago, I finished the alpha draft of For the Broken Girl, Book 1. It’s just over 148,000 words and 28 chapters long! I did it! The alpha draft will be going up on Patreon for my $3 and above supporters shortly — but I wanted to let you guys know we’re one step closer to May’s publication date.

I’ll be back later when I have more revision details for you but I’ve been writing for four hours and I wrote 8k just tonight so I need to let my brain relax.

BUT I FINISHED IT!

March 19, 2020

Hello! The last time I checked in was with a site & story status post. I made another about two weeks ago on YouTube, intending to get back and post a text version here but then I got sick — again. So let me recap —

I had a great writing month in February. I wrote about 77k words for Broken Girl, and got very close to finishing. I was actually on target to finish early — until I got slammed with a reallly bad cold. Don’t worry — I never ran a fever or had any Covid-19 symptoms, but it basically took me out for a week. And just as I started to feel better, I got a second cold. This happens to me a lot — I have a really crappy immune system and generally catch a few in a row once the initial welcome mat is laid out.

So just as I was starting to recover, the world kind of…fell apart. I live in NJ and some positive cases of Covid-19 are in my county. Instead of using my evenings for writing, I had to start planning for remote learning. We’re closed in my district as of Tuesday, and the first three days have been interesting. It’s been hard to get in the right frame of mind for writing, to be honest.

I blew through my first dead line of March 14, and I’m likely to miss my second deadline of March 23. However, I’m starting Chapter 24 tonight, and I have seven more chapters to finish. I can still finish by that final March 31 deadline. The only drawback is not having a lot of time for Mad World Discovery. I’m okay with that — it’s not a new project, but the final book in an ongoing story and large pieces are figured out. Post-production might be longer, but we’re still good for Camp NaNoWriMo in April.

So let’s get our minds off the crazy stuff going on outside our door! I posted a bonus preview on Patreon open to the public — Chapter One of For the Broken Girl!
