But remember the time I told you the way that I felt
That I’d be lost without you and never find myself
Let’s hold onto each other above everything else

Inspiration

This story has changed so much since I originally envisioned it in 2004. Lila Quartermaine had just died, and I found myself wondering how Port Charles would handle Audrey’s death. So I began writing based on that idea, and had six or seven chapters written before a computer crash killed them all. Almost ten years later, I returned to it, and changed it around so that there are very few aspects of that old story that remained: really just the title and the way I deal with Jason changing Sam’s paternity results.

Timeline

For the most part, the major backstory will be explained in the first few chapters. I’ve changed only a few things. I pick up the show about May 2004 (or whenever Jason changed the paternity results), and go from there. So from that period on, only what’s in my story is what happened. Basically — just how Sonny and Jason deal with his changing the results. Elizabeth does not come home in June 2004 and enroll the nursing program. Emily and Nikolas are together, after he comes back from the dead. None of the Mary Bishop going insane stuff happens. Not that it’s important, but I liked Mary so…pfft.

Steven Webber is played by Shaun Benson, rather than Scott Reeves, simply because I never really watched Scott as Steven, but I really liked Shaun’s portrayal back then. A note about Steven as a character: John Durant is not a factor in this story, so he’s just a normal doctor at General Hospital, having moved to Port Charles over the summer.

Carly is played by Tamara Braun because she was playing her in 2004 and her characterization drives Carly’s motives, rather than LW or SBr.

Thanks to Cora for her incredible help during the outlining stage, and then for her skills as a beta 🙂

Author’s Note

Sonny is going to struggle with mental illness in this story, particularly a type of bipolar disorder with mixed episodes. This basically means his mood swings occur much more rapidly, and even occasionally simultaneously. I don’t know anyone personally with this disorder–everything I know comes from hours of research.  People who have this disorder are not innately violent, so I want to make that disclaimer. I just tried to adapt the disorder to someone with Sonny’s specific characteristics. I hope I do this illness justice and make Sonny less of a caricature and feel more like a living, breathing man struggling with a difficult illness.

If you have any experience with this, please contact me to let me know if I’m making this work or if I’m messing it up. I don’t want this to be a soap opera disease where I make it up as I go along.

Inspiration

A Few Words is the rewritten version of Poisonous Dreams, written in 2003-04. It’s based a spoiler that began to circulate in April 2003 that Elizabeth was going to become pregnant with Ric’s child. At the time, I could not conceive a way Elizabeth and Ric would reunite in the wake of his kidnapping Courtney, pretending to sleep with Carly, and all that other nonsense. Instead, I decided to write what I thought was the logical conclusion to the Ric storyline. It seemed like they were setting Ric up to be mostly psychotic, but then they changed his character. Rick Hearst is so amazing that I’ve learned to forget most of 2003.

Background

This story begins in April 2003, but nothing that happened in 2003 happened the way it did on the show, particularly Ric’s storyline. So, just assume that Ric has done nothing beyond date Elizabeth, pretend to sleep with Carly and work for her at the club, and defend Jason and Brenda (along with Alexis) during the Alcazar trial in January 2003. Sonny never fired Jason (because dude, stupid) but Jason and Courtney are dating. That asinine confrontation in Kelly’s between the three of them did not happen because…well…no. Emily returned in March as scheduled, but she doesn’t have cancer.

This story is now completed. Thanks to Cora for proofing the last four chapters.

Inspiration & Timeline

Set in Fall 2003, shortly after Courtney becomes addicted to pain killers and hits Elizabeth with her car. This story is based on challenge in which Elizabeth becomes pregnant with Jason’s baby. I can’t remember now who set the challenge, so apologies for that.

Timeline

After a body was found in the wreckage of the hotel fire, it was suspected of being both Zander Smith and Scott Baldwin. It ended up being neither of them, but when they thought it was Zander, Elizabeth was responsible for his death. She’d hit him on the head, causing him to be unconscious and die in the fire. Nikolas was suspected of the crime, and Ric was trying to frame him in order to clear Elizabeth.

Elizabeth wanted to come clean but ultimately, Jason agreed to sign a statement that cast guilt on Andy Capelli, the rogue detective that had died while trying to kill Jason after the fire. Elizabeth was in the clear, thanks to Jason. It didn’t matter since Zander wasn’t dead after all, so it was all a mess, to be honest.

Inspiration

I was extremely unhappy with the way the show handled Zander’s supposed death and Elizabeth’s part in it. It felt like she had zero POV in the whole thing, and was just a pawn. I also really hated how Nikolas and Emily were treating her during the whole thing. It definitely demonstrated to me why Ric was terrible for her. I’ve actually written two versions of the Elizabeth Murders Zander story — this one, which I wrote back in 2004, and Shadows, which I wrote a version of in 2004-05 then rewrote in 2014 as my first story back after five years.

I’m not happy with this story and I actually tossed it in the Fiction Graveyard for a time, but it’s not super terrible.
