This entry is part 1 of 33 in the For the Broken Girl: Reflections of You

It’s hard to admit that
Everything just takes me back
To when you were there
To when you were there
And a part of me keeps holding on
Just in case it hasn’t gone
I guess I still care
Do you still care?

General Hospital: Nurse’s Station, Pediatrics Floor

It had been just over a week since the World Health Organization lifted the quarantine placed on General Hospital.

Port Charles had turned the page on the deadly encephalitis epidemic that had raged within its town limits for nearly three weeks. It had taken the lives of more than sixty residents, including several doctors, nurses, and orderlies that had risked their lives to care for the sick and dying. Nearly everyone in Port Charles had lost someone or knew someone that had suffered a loss.

Elizabeth Spencer walked beneath a memorial wreath hanging on the wall by elevators, commemorating the student nurse assigned to Pediatrics that had died in the epidemic. She flashed a smile at one of her colleagues, Nadine Crowell, another student nurse who was looking at the wreath and the photograph hanging beneath it. “How are you holding up?”

“Well enough,” Nadine said with a sigh as she reached for a chart. “Regina’s parents left yesterday. They’re taking her home to Buffalo for a funeral. I’m going to try to get a few days, but…” She offered Elizabeth a hesitant smile. “A lot of people are asking for time off for a funeral right now.”

“Yeah.” Elizabeth tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. “I went to the last memorial service yesterday,” she said. “For Courtney. Matthews,” she added when Nadine looked at her, slightly mystified. “She’s the one that had the baby before she died?”

“Oh, right. Your brother-in-law’s….” Nadine pursed her lips and squinted her eyes. Still, there was no word really to describe the relationship between Nikolas Cassadine and Courtney, as it had begun while Nikolas was still married to Elizabeth’s best friend. “How is he?”

“He left for Greece this morning. He needed to get away,” Elizabeth said. “He went with Lucky’s sister, Lulu.” She tapped her pen against a chart. “I should call Bobbie, see how she and Lucas are doing.”

“Yeah,” Nadine began as an intern stalked into the hub to reach for a chart. He wasn’t paying attention as he grabbed it, knocking an entire stack to the floor. “Hey, watch it—”

You watch it!” the intern snapped. “I’m covering twice as many patients—” He looked at Elizabeth, his cheeks flushed. “You know, your best friend called out. Again.”

“Emily?” Elizabeth said. “What—”

“Must be nice to be the daughter of the chief of staff,” the intern snarled before taking the chart he’d come for and storming away. Nadine sighed and knelt down to clean up the rest of the charts.

Elizabeth shook her head and reached into her pocket for her cell phone. “I’m going to text her. Something must be wrong for her to have called out like this—I just saw her yesterday at the memorial—” She looked at Nadine, then frowned. “What? You’re making a face.”

“I will say it’s the third shift that she’s missed since the quarantine lifted,” Nadine admitted. “I thought maybe she was just sick or tired. I mean, we all are—”

“Yeah, but—” Elizabeth sighed, closed her phone. “Well, I’ll check in with her. See what’s up.”

The elevator doors slid open, and Jason Morgan stepped out. Elizabeth lifted her brows at seeing Emily’s brother on her floor. He wasn’t a regular visitor to General Hospital, and even less so to the pediatrics floor. “Hey,” she said as he walked up to the counter. “Are you looking for Emily? She’s not here.”

Jason furrowed his brow, shook his head. “She’s supposed to meet me here—” His phone buzzed at that point, and he pulled it out of the pocket of his leather coat. He grimaced as he read a text message. “And—you’re right. Emily just told me she’s not here.”

“Yeah, I guess it was last minute,” Elizabeth said with a shrug. She picked up a chart, then stopped and sighed. “How’s Sam?” she asked, having remembered that his fiancée, Sam McCall, had been ill with the virus and lost a brother to the illness. “I didn’t want to ask if she was having a memorial for her brother, but—”

“Oh.” Jason cleared his throat. “Uh, she’s okay,” he said. “We didn’t—Danny’s not from Port Charles. So we went to Hawaii to spread his ashes.” He looked away. “But, uh, I know she said she wanted to thank you. I guess…you were Danny’s nurse?”

“Yeah,” Elizabeth said with a wistful smile. “He was really sweet, and I—” She took a deep breath. “We worked really hard, but we just couldn’t—” Her throat felt tight. “I’m just glad we didn’t lose more. Thank God you and Carly got the vaccine here.”

“Yeah. Well, I wish I’d been faster. I wish we’d saved Danny.”

Elizabeth opened her mouth to say something else, but then she heard it. A slight creak—the sound of a wheel that needed a spray of WD-40—then the footsteps. She looked past Jason to see the short bald man rolling his janitorial cart down the hallway towards them. He was a slight man, his olive skin heavily tattooed, his dark eyes already scanning the halls and area around him.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and forced a smile on her face. “Um, if you—” Her fingers shook as she reached for a pen as the custodian drew closer. “If you talk to Emily—”

“Are you okay—” Jason stopped as he noticed the custodian drawing towards them. His face tightened as Manny Ruiz flashed them both a smile and offered Jason a two-fingered salute. Then he slowly wheeled the cart past them, disappearing down another hallway.

“I hate him,” Nadine said as she came up behind Elizabeth, offered her fellow nurse a squeeze on the arm in support. “Doesn’t it always feel like he’s watching you?”

“Yeah,” Elizabeth said faintly as she looked to where Manny had disappeared. “Yeah, it does.”

Manny Ruiz had wreaked havoc on Port Charles for months before his capture at Christmas. He was one of Jason and Sonny’s rivals from Miami who had arrived after the slaughter of his father and brother at the hands of Lorenzo Alcazar. He’d engineered a train accident that had killed dozens of Port Charles residents, injuring more than a hundred—including Elizabeth’s husband. Then, he had held the OR at gunpoint to stop them from saving Jason’s life that December.

And of course, Elizabeth had her own experience with the lunatic.

Last October, he’d grabbed Elizabeth from the hospital, taken her hostage, and forced her to tend to wounds he’d received. She’d managed to escape and put it behind her—but Manny Ruiz had stalked her nightmares for months.

Now, he worked at General Hospital as a custodian, thanks to Alexis Davis and Ric Lansing. They had argued Manny wasn’t responsible for his actions due to a brain tumor on his frontal lobe. As if Manny’s particular brand of violence and sadistic torment could be excused so easily.

“That’s why I was meeting with Emily,” Jason said. “We were—I know he started here in January, but that was right before everyone got sick, and he wasn’t here during the quarantine. I didn’t have a chance to do anything—” He squinted at her. “Elizabeth, are you okay?” he repeated.

She blinked at him, realized that she was still looking down the hall—as if making sure Manny was really gone.

“I’m fine,” Elizabeth said finally. “Um, yeah, I think Emily said you were going to talk to Alan, try to convince him to fire Manny—” She wiggled her shoulders. “I’m sorry, I just—I hate him.”

“Yeah, I get that.” Jason tipped his head. “You see him a lot?”

“All the time,” Nadine muttered. She flushed when they looked at her. “Sorry. None of my business. But he’s always pushing that stupid cart past the nurse’s station. I get it, we’re in the middle of everything, but—” She picked up her charts. “I hate him,” she said, then left the nurse’s station to check on a patient.

“Does he hang around Emily a lot?” Jason asked, looking back at Elizabeth.

“I—” Elizabeth shook her head. “No. I mean, I don’t know. Maybe he does. She and I haven’t worked the same shift in a while—” She shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess I’m just—I feel like he’s always there.” She chewed on her bottom lip. “I guess you weren’t able to get Alan to fire him?”

“It’s not up to him, he said. Ruiz is here on some sort of community outreach, and the board is being stubborn. He’s going to keep working, but—” Jason scratched the edge of his eyebrow with his thumb. “Can you—is there somewhere we can talk?”

“Um, sure.” Elizabeth stepped out of the station. It was one thing to talk in public about a common threat, or even just to work together during a crisis like they had during the epidemic. She’d helped him, and Carly get the vaccine into the hospital when the authorities had refused to let him in, but somehow that felt different.

There was something uncomfortable about leading Jason into an empty conference room and closing the door behind her—the first time they’d been alone together since—

She furrowed her brow, staring at the cheap wood of the door. She couldn’t quite remember—maybe it had been here at the chapel, the night Emily had nearly died more than two years ago. Elizabeth shook her head and squared her shoulders. It didn’t matter if she and Jason were alone together, and it was silly to even think it did.

She turned to face him. “What’s up?”

“Alan is hiring two of my guys as orderlies,” Jason told her. “One to follow Manny around, and the other here on the Pediatrics floor because of Emily. But—you said you think Manny is watching you. And that other nurse—she said it’s like he’s always at the nurse’s station. Is she right? Do you think Manny’s watching you?”

“No,” Elizabeth said immediately. “Of course not. There’s no reason—” She folded her arms, looked at the floor. “I would never—I don’t matter—”

“Elizabeth.”

His quiet, reassuring tone gave her the courage to look up, to meet his eyes. He didn’t look irritated or annoyed. Just concerned. “I don’t think he’s watching me,” Elizabeth repeated. “Which is different than saying it feels like he is. I think I’m just being sensitive about it. I mean, since last October, when he grabbed me from the hospital—”

Jason held up a hand, and she stopped talking. “I’d forgotten,” he said quietly. “Some of the memories from before the surgery—” He took a deep breath. “I’m sorry. When Lucky came to tell me and Sam, to look for Manny, I didn’t know—” He swallowed. “I didn’t realize I knew you.”

I didn’t realize I knew you.

She let his words roll around in her head because, man, it was such a simple thing to say. And it was true. But it didn’t feel like enough.

She shook her head. She wasn’t doing this. “Oh. Well, yeah, I knew that. And it’s okay. I mean, he just wanted me to take care of his wound. And obviously, it all worked out. Anyway, like I said, it’s just—it brings back a lot. To see Manny—I had—” She sighed, stared at her fingers. At her wedding ring. “I had some nightmares. It all felt like it got mixed up with…other things.”

“I’m sorry.”

Elizabeth met his eyes, realized he had made the connection to what she hadn’t wanted to say. That the way Manny had grabbed her, threatened her—that it had made her think about her rape. “I’m glad you’re going to have someone watching him at the hospital,” Elizabeth said finally. “Lucky said the PCPD couldn’t do anything about it. Officially, the charges against Manny have been dropped. Even mine. So…” She flashed him a bright smile that she hoped looked more confident than she felt. “You’re watching him.”

“Yeah, but you tell me if you think he’s paying too much attention to you, okay? Or anyone—” Jason grimaced and shook his head. “Never mind. I don’t want you worried about him any more than you need to be.”

“No—no, if I see Manny watching someone—I mean, the way he went after Sam and—I want to help. It’ll make me feel better—”

“You are not going to help,” Jason cut in sharply. “Don’t get involved. Stay safe.”

Safe. She scowled. “Oh, you mean, safe at the hospital? Where Manny grabbed me in the first place? Listen, if I see Manny hurting someone, what do you expect me to do? If he starts following someone around, do you think I’m just going to ignore it?”

“No, that would be too easy,” he muttered. He scrubbed a hand over his face. “Fine. Fine,” he repeated. “If you see something, then you can tell me. Or Lucky, I guess. I don’t want to make problems for you. But do not get involved.”

“I won’t.”

“I mean it, Elizabeth. Stay away from him.”

Elizabeth arched her brow, folded her arms, and glared at him. “How dumb do you think I am?”

“I think that you’re incredibly brave and willing to put your life on the line to save someone else,” Jason said, with an irritated tone that made it sound less like a compliment. “So don’t.”

“If I see something, I’ll tell you.” When he just stared at her because apparently, he knew her better than she remembered, she sighed. “But you can’t be everywhere, Jason. You’re not Superman.”

“Elizabeth—”

“If I see him following someone or just doing something suspicious, I will call you.” She hesitated. “I, uh, don’t have your number. You—” Her cheeks flushed. “You changed it.”

“I had—” Jason took out his phone, went through his contacts, then paused. “I didn’t realize,” he said after a long moment. “I guess—”

“You haven’t needed to get in touch with me,” Elizabeth said with a nod. No point in getting depressed over it. “Yeah. I didn’t know either. Until we were in the middle of the virus, and I wanted to—” She shook her head. “Anyway. I’ll just tell Emily or something—”

“No—” He held out his phone. “Put your number in. I’ll save it now. And then I’ll call you, and you save mine.”

Their fingers brushed as she took the phone, and she nearly fumbled. But she pulled herself together, typed in her number, then pressed send. Her phone rang in her pocket. She handed his phone back to him. Quietly, they both saved each other’s contact information.

“Thank you for letting me know that you’ll have guys here. And when I find Emily, I’m sure she’ll feel safer, too. I should get back to work—”

“Actually—” Jason grimaced. “I was going to ask Emily if she could do me a favor, but—she’s not here. And I’d rather get it done as soon as possible. Would you mind—”

“Sure.” Elizabeth folded her arms and offered him a smile. “What’s up? What do you need?”

“I need a DNA test run,” Jason said after a long moment. “Without any names attached. Or anyone knowing. Is…” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Is that something you’d be willing to do? If you can’t—I mean, I know you’re married. To a cop,” he added as if it hadn’t been implied in the first half of the statement. “Or it might be against hospital rules—”

“It probably is,” Elizabeth admitted. “Patrick owes me a favor, and he won’t ask questions. I promise. You can—” She met Jason’s eyes, swallowed hard. “You can trust me.”

“I always could,” Jason said. He cleared his throat. “I’ll get you the samples then.” He started for the door, then turned back. “Thanks.”

“Any time.”

After months of planning, writing, rewriting, and editing — For the Broken Girl, Book 1 is finally here! Today, I am posting the Prologue — but I won’t be linking that first chapter directly. I’d prefer if you went to the story page and read the background & setup.

Thanks to everyone for all your patience as I delayed Fool Me Twice to write Broken Girl, and THEN delayed Broken Girl three months. I feel like it was worth the wait, and I’m glad I took the extra time.

I’ll be posting new chapters on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. All the chapters for this week have already been scheduled, and I’ll be working on scheduling the rest of the chapters this week so that even if I got really busy, the story would get updated. Hopefully, I’ll remember to put up the main update post but if I forget, never fear — updates go live at 7 AM the day they’re scheduled so bookmark the story page and come on back on the day.

I hope you enjoy it!

For the Broken Girl

May 1, 2020

Hello! Today the May 2020 Site & Story Status Video went live on YouTube. I’m linking it below. Here is your text version!

General Writing Update

  • The plan for April was to finish revisions for Broken Girl and work on the first draft of Mad World, Book 3. I’ve learned a valuable lesson – NEVER try to do that again, LOL. It was just too hard to juggle a first draft and revisions at the same time, particularly with the challenges of working from home.
  • I had some mental health issues, particularly in April. Just a lot of stress from worrying about family I can’t see, news I can’t change, and starting a brand new curriculum teaching double the amount of students I’ve had literally all year. I went from 80 students in ELA/Science to nearly 170 in Spanish in three grade levels. It’s…been interesting.
  • Last week was a bad week for that — I kind of hit a breaking point. But I took a few days to get myself together, and this week has been so much better in all ways. I’m looking forward to taking this energy into May and making sure I pay attention to self care.

Site & Channel Update

  • Starting the process of changing the site over to a new active story. I changed the widgets, got the For the Broken Girl story page ready to go. I still have some pieces to work out.
  • On the channel last month, I completed two vlog series: Revising Broken Girl and Camp NaNoWriMo. They were a lot of fun to film.
  • This month, I’m launching a new vlog, Discovering Mad World. I’ve filmed the first three parts — that will start next week. Basically, it’ll be like the BG series — taking you through the process.
  • If you’re interested, I can create text highlights of my videos to post here. I do this for my Patreons already, and I’m happy to do it here if you’re not someone who has time/interest in the videos. Let me know by replying!
  • Right now, Mad World exists on its own domain. I’ve been thinking of moving it back over here before the next book comes out. I can’t remember now why I put it on its own site. Any thoughts?
  • Thanks to a free trial and Patreon support, I now have a subscription to Adobe Creative Suite, which means I get to use Adobe Premiere to edit my channel videos. This summer, I’ll be working on organizing my videos and making promotional videos.

Story Updates

  • For the Broken Girl, Book 1:
    • I finished the beta draft on Monday, April 27. I’ve been working on the posting draft this weekk. The alpha draft is available to Patreon supporters at the $3 level, the beta draft at the $5 level, and the posting draft & ebook will be available at the $7 level.
    • I’m hoping to finish the posting draft tonight, the ebook tomorrow, and then start scheduling chapters on Sunday. $1 supporters will get that week’s chapters on Sunday.
  • Mad World, Book 3
    • The first draft has had a bumpy road, but we’re getting back into this week as I finish up BG. The plan now is to finish the first draft in June, edit in July, then post in September.
  • Fool Me Twice, Book 1
    • We’ll be working on discovery off and on throughout Mad World, B3’s production process. If revisions for MW are done on time in July, we’ll get into the first draft of that sometime in August.

April 27, 2020

Mark your calendars! Next monday, we’re going to launch For the Broken Girl, Book 1: Reflections of You! I finished the beta draft this evening and have uploaded it for my Crimson Devoted Tier at Patreon. From here, I need to do last minute typo and spelling checks, but we’re as close to done as one can be. So excited!

For the Broken Girl is, I think, the longest story I’ve written. Before this, it was Book 2 of Mad World which was about 170k and The Best Think at 168k. Broken Girl is 178k. I’m actually pretty excited about this because before January, I didn’t have a single word of this particular draft done at all. I wrote all of that in the last four months.

I posted a lot about it on Twitter and Patreon, and since I started the revisions, in a vlog on the channel at YouTube, so definitely check out those places for updates more often.

I’m going to be working on promotional stuff to get the site ready — it’s been about six months since I was updating regularly. I’ll be posting this book three times a week, from May 4 through around July 11. Can’t wait for you guys to read it!

April 9, 2020

This is a text version of a video I posted on the channel last week, but I know not a lot of people can watch the videos.

Life

  • I’m working from home like a lot of people but with an added twist — a week and a half into remote learning, my district decided that there was no point in paying me and the teacher I’ve been subbing for since November to be at home, so they brought her back. What a time to nearly be out of a job!
  • Luckily, my principal found a spot for me and I took over Spanish. It’s an elective, so it has a bit of a smaller workload than my ELA/Science classes. I’m just happy to still have a job!

Site & Channel Updates

  • Ebooks are the big thing I’m hoping to get sorted out next week. I’m going to be using Scrivener for my ebook output, but I have learn how to use the format. I’m on spring break starting tomorrow, so it’s something I’m putting on the list.
  • Channel – I’m running two video series right now – Camp NaNoWriMo & Revising Broken Girl. Both are windows into my current projects, Broken Girl and Mad World, Book 3, so make sure you’re subscribed!  I’ve linked the most recent videos below. They’re almost always less than ten minutes.

Story Updates

  • Alpha Draft of For the Broken Girl was completed on schedule on March 28, and I dug into the revisions for the Beta Draft over this last weekend. I’ve started the rewrites and revisions, and hope to be finished them by April 19.
  • If you’re a Pateron Supporter at the Crimson Devoted ($5), you’ll get the Beta draft by that point. The Posting Draft/Ebook is scheduled be ready any day between May 1-5 for those of you on the Crimson Adored ($7) tier.
  • Book 1 will be published three times a week, starting Monday, May 5.
  • I started Mad World, Book 3‘s alpha draft last week. I set a soft deadline of May 15 (boy, it’d be great to be done by this date!) and a hard deadline of June 15 (any later than this, and we have to move the September publication date)
  • The next project is Fool Me Twice. I’ll be starting that discovery draft on June 1 and going into the alpha draft for Camp NaNoWriMo in July.

March 29, 2020

Hey! It’s Sunday morning here, and I just slept for eight hours after spending most of last night finishing up For the Broken Girl, Book 1. What I’ve completed is the alpha draft — the first pass at the story. I haven’t reread large portions of it, and there are a lot of typos, inconsistencies, and plot holes. So the next step is to go into the revision stage.

I don’t know how much work needs to be done until I do a full reread, so that’s going to determine the final publication date. At the moment, I know that there are characters and subplots that need fleshing out, and I expect to add two or more chapters at some point in the story before we get to the end. At the same time, I’ll be going into Camp NaNoWriMo on April 1, working on the alpha draft of Mad World, Book 3.

I’ve updated Production Schedule with these dates, but here is what the next six weeks looks like:

28 March 2020: Complete For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Alpha Draft & Patreon Release for Crimson Love tier

29 March 2020: Complete Mad World, Book 3 – Outline

30 March 2020: Complete Mad World, Book 3 – Plot Sketch

31 March 2020: Begin Mad World, Book 3 – Chapter Breakdown & Soundtrack

1 April 2020: Begin Camp NaNoWriMo – Mad World, Book 3 Alpha Draft is chosen project. Goal is 50,000 words.

4 April 2020: Reread For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Alpha Draft and make revision notes.

5 April 2020: Begin revising For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Alpha Draft

19 April 2020: Complete For the Broken Girl, Book 1- Beta Draft & Patreon Release for Crimson Devoted tier.

30 April 2020: Complete Camp NaNoWriMo and assess Mad World, Book 3 production schedule.

1 May 2020: Complete For the Broken Girl, Book 1 – Posting Draft & Patreon Release for Crimson Adored tier.

5 May 2020: Publish For the Broken Girl, Book 1 ebook for Patreon Crimson Adored tier & begin publishing chapters on Crimson Glass.

Note: Depending on revisions, everything Broken Girl releated after April 19 is subject to change, but the absolute latest publication for Broken Girl is May 18.

I’ll be posting three chapters a week — Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — which should take us through August. And then in September, I’ll begin posting Mad World Book 3.

March 28, 2020

I’m just popping in to say about five minutes ago, I finished the alpha draft of For the Broken Girl, Book 1. It’s just over 148,000 words and 28 chapters long! I did it! The alpha draft will be going up on Patreon for my $3 and above supporters shortly — but I wanted to let you guys know we’re one step closer to May’s publication date.

I’ll be back later when I have more revision details for you but I’ve been writing for four hours and I wrote 8k just tonight so I need to let my brain relax.

BUT I FINISHED IT!

March 19, 2020

Hello! The last time I checked in was with a site & story status post. I made another about two weeks ago on YouTube, intending to get back and post a text version here but then I got sick — again. So let me recap —

I had a great writing month in February. I wrote about 77k words for Broken Girl, and got very close to finishing. I was actually on target to finish early — until I got slammed with a reallly bad cold. Don’t worry — I never ran a fever or had any Covid-19 symptoms, but it basically took me out for a week. And just as I started to feel better, I got a second cold. This happens to me a lot — I have a really crappy immune system and generally catch a few in a row once the initial welcome mat is laid out.

So just as I was starting to recover, the world kind of…fell apart. I live in NJ and some positive cases of Covid-19 are in my county. Instead of using my evenings for writing, I had to start planning for remote learning. We’re closed in my district as of Tuesday, and the first three days have been interesting. It’s been hard to get in the right frame of mind for writing, to be honest.

I blew through my first dead line of March 14, and I’m likely to miss my second deadline of March 23. However, I’m starting Chapter 24 tonight, and I have seven more chapters to finish. I can still finish by that final March 31 deadline. The only drawback is not having a lot of time for Mad World Discovery. I’m okay with that — it’s not a new project, but the final book in an ongoing story and large pieces are figured out. Post-production might be longer, but we’re still good for Camp NaNoWriMo in April.

So let’s get our minds off the crazy stuff going on outside our door! I posted a bonus preview on Patreon open to the public — Chapter One of For the Broken Girl!

February 15, 2020

It’s been ages since we did one of these posts but I realized I’ve been mostly putting this content into the YT videos and not typing it up for anyone who doesn’t want to watch so let me put together a progress post.

Site & Channel Status

Crimson Glass is doing pretty well. I have enough Patreon support to take care of hosting bills and put away to keep investing in DVDs and software that helps me write. Scrivener 3 (the program I use to write) will be coming out of beta in the next few months so I’ll be able to buy it when that happens.

I’m working on relaunching the Ebooks feature. I can’t figure out the best way to display that content and I’m also shopping around for a better program to create the ebooks. Scriv might be an option, but it’s in beta which means my settings always disappear. I have to wait until the release before investigating that.

Crimson Glass YouTube Channel

I’ve learned a lot about making videos in the last two months so I’m hoping to do a soft relaunch and actually refilm most of the content I’ve posted with a bit more organization. Graphics, a better back drops, a more planned calendar, etc. I recently launched a Damaged series, but I’ll be relaunching that sometime this week with the lessons I’ve learned.

I was able to create a brand account so now it actually says Crimson Glass, lol. Check it out and subscribe — I need 74 more subscribers to get a custom URL (like http://youtube.com/crimsonglass)

Over at Patreon, I’m making a lot of video content. I film 2-3 videos a week. There’s usually 1-2 writing updates and then I’m working on a Writing Series for Mad World Book 3 where I take you guys through the entire writing process, from Discovery through Editing. There’s also a bunch of a long videos where I talk through a bunch of projects — a huge Fool Me Twice spoiler video that’s almost an hour, lol. If you’re interested in listening to me rant, that’s an option for you.

Story Status

In Progress

  • For the Broken Girl, Book 1
    • I’m so excited how this story is progressing. I started it in November for NaNoWriMo but had some drafting issues. I went back into the planning stages for a few weeks, but then relaunched the drafting phase on January 2.
    • January was a rough month for writing, but I’m at about 57k right now and nearly 20k of that has been written since last Sunday. I’m about 40% of the way done the first draft and my deadline is between March 14-31. I’d like to finish closer to March 14, but March 31 is the absolute last day. If I keep the pace I’m writing at now (20k a week), I should finish around March 14-16.
    • I have a tentative posting schedule set for  Monday, May 12. I’ll keep you posted. It may shift a week later or earlier depending on my editing.
  • Mad World, Book 3
    • I’m planning to start writing Book 3 for April Camp NaNoWriMo. I’m working on a Patreon Video series where I take you through the writing process from Discovery to Release which includes brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, etc.
    • My Camp NaNoWriMo goal hasn’t been set yet. I won’t know for sure until I finish the Discovery stage and set my preliminary word count. The plan is to write half of it in April and then finish it in May & June so I can edit in July & August.
    • Firm Release Date: Wednesday September 3, 2020.

Up Next

  • Fool Me Twice, Book 1
    • In May, once Broken Girl has been edited, I’ll be launching the FMT discovery process — or rather relaunching it. It’ll be a lot shorter than both Broken Girl and Mad World since I have so much of the story figured out, but I need to refine some of my starting details.
    • The plan is to begin drafting FMT Book 1 in July Camp NaNoWriMo, and then have it finished sometime in August or September.
    • Tentative Release: December 2020.
  • Damaged, Season 3
    • I’m launcing a YouTube series analyzing what I’ve already written and going back into Editing & Discovery to fix a few things and rewrite a small portion of Season 2. Once I’ve settled on the rewrite, Damaged, Season 3 goes into Discovery.
    • I’m hoping to write Damaged Season 3 for November NaNoWriMo.
    • Tentative Release: January-March 2021.

After That

After that, my schedule is pretty open. I’ll have Broken Girl & Fool Me Twice still on my radar — they’re trilogies that will need two more books.  I also want to tackle Feels Like Home because I would love to have that done in 2022 so it’s done before 2024 hits which is when the story is set.

I also want to finally finish off the sequels I planned — Burn in Heaven (A Few Words Too Many) and Malice (Bittersweet). Damaged also has a Season 4 that I want to finish up. Lots of things in the works!

Your update link – The Next Best Thing – Part 4

Thanks so much for joining me this holiday season by returning to Bittersweet and The Best Thing. I hope you guys enjoyed the stories! For now, this is the last content I’m promising until May when I publish For the Broken Girl, Book 1. There may be some flash fiction and short stories, but I’ll be concentrating primarily on novels this year.

You can find YouTube content on my channel where I’m still making videos about my stories — I’m working my way through all of my old stories and revisiting what it was like to write them. I’m also hoping to get some ebooks done, but Broken Girl is getting all of my energy.

Have a great 2020!
