A Public Post on Patreon

Just checking in briefly to make sure that the post I made on Patreon is seen by all the readers and that no one misses it. I’ll be pausing charges for August. It’s a public one.

  • At risk of sounding like a mom and grandmother (cause I am), I honestly think you put a lot of pressure on yourself to make everyone in this very lovely fiction world happy with something to read. If you can’t, you owe nobody explanations and updates will happen when they can. If they can’t deal, that is their problem.

Playing devil’s advocate: While I do think some people were simply looking for an update. I would imagine some folks were using the update to do a round about way to check in with you to see if you are okay. It is still rude all the same but as you may know, we your readers are not only attached to the stories, but to you as a person, even if it is just across a computer screen and keyboard and we all don’t know each other from a hole in the ground.

Just do what you can do and if doesn’t, I expect we will all be here when you can. I know I will.

Okay, so—- feel free to slap me down like a pesky horse fly. But, I sincerely hope that you start to feel better soon and not just because you create delicious stories but because you are you.

  • I think that’s what made it such a a struggle for me, because in no way do I think the people who reached out to me were intending it to be harmful. I’ve always understood that the way I react is a symptom of my own problems and not based on their intentions, so no need to slap you down.

I think for me, it was just the idea that as someone who’s had access to both my posts here and my Patreon feed where I’m even more open, it felt more intrusive than it might have before. If that makes sense. But I get it — my reactions are my own problem to resolve and I need to set more clear boundaries.
