Minor Setback – My Immune System Sucks

Sorry for disappearing the last two weeks. I caught a cold from either one of the germ-infested students I teach or the dirty children my sister gave birth too. It’s really a toss up at this point. Anyway, I’ve spent the better part the last week hacking up a lung and binging Grey’s Anatomy because that required no brain power. I stopped watching that show somewhere in the fourth season and I’d forgotten how good Season 1 and 2 was. Anyway.

I’ll be back sometime tomorrow or Thursday and catch up with the last two weeks of Fiction Graveyard. I hope to bring back The Best Thing in January, but my writing energy has been sapped. Every time I get a cold, I go down like death. I’m the worst sick person. See you guys in a few days. Have a great holiday!

  • I’m sorry you’re sick. I sure hope you feel well enough to enjoy at least part of the holidays.

A friend who has taught for years says classrooms are petri dishes. She now has an incredible immune system, but it took years of being exposed to germs to get it where it is. Every new group of children brings its own set of germs, so it’s an annual event until you get built up enough to resist anything.

I also found that was true working in offices. New hires would often get sick a few days in. They would always feel terrible about being sick at a new job, but I’ve always thought managers should expect it and perhaps let them know it’s normal instead of shaming them.

Best wishes for a good holiday!

  • I’m so sorry to hear you have been felled by some ‘super’ bug. It sounds, though, like you have turned a corner and are on the mend. Don’t try to push; you don’t want a setback. Allowing your system to rebuild itself takes time, good rest, and lots of healthy soup/meals. I’m an avid fan of hearty soups being good for a lot of ailments, from the common cold to a broken heart. Of course, Ben & Jerry’s works too. Lol. I’ll be here to cheer you on when you feel up to posting again. I kinda wish I could send you a pot of my kids’ favorite, Semi-homemade Chicken & Dumplings.
