Flash Fiction Returns with Signs of Life!

Update Link: Signs of Life, Part 12

Happy to be bringing back Flash Fiction. It’s been too long and I’ve really missed writing. I haven’t done a lot of writing since I last checked in, so nothing really to report on what’s next. I was on vacation last week, down the shore. Crazy — as a Jersey girl from birth, I almost never get down there. This was the first time I’d been in Wildwood since high school, I think, twenty years ago. It was a lot of fun. Relaxed on the beach, walked the boardwalk, and spent way too much money on my nieces and nephew.

I have about two full weeks left of summer, but I’ve made a lot of progress in making my first few weeks back at work relaxing. I wrote all of the content and teaching resources for the first 15 days, which takes care of my sixth grade program. I still have to finish 7th and 8th grade, but I’ve given myself some breathing room. I’m a bit nervous about the school year beginning. Covid cases are up in my state, and we’re wearing masks in school again but there’s no word on how we’re supposed to manage class sizes. I’ll have 20-25 students in a room in two weeks, and our blocks are 84 minutes long. I don’t know. I don’t want to be virtual. I don’t want to be hybrid, but this new strain is supposed to hit kids harder and I just — I want this to be over.

I hope everyone is having a great August so far. I’ll be trying out an evening schedule for the next few weeks to see how my energy is doing, but we might switch back to the morning. We’ll be on Saturdays & Sundays during the school year.

Loved the update but more … that writing is bringing you joy again.
